Species: Lesser black-backed gull
Lesser black-backed gulls are found in many coastal areas of Northern Europe; many form permanent colonies although birds from Scandinavia tend to migrate to overwinter in countries such as the Netherlands and the UK. As the name suggests this species of gull is recognizable from its dark-grey to black back and wings. It has a bright yellow beak and feet. These gulls are omnivorous and whilst their typical habitat is coastal areas, large colonies are increasingly seen in towns and cities where they scavenge human waste.
