Lumpy skin disease (LSD) is a disease found in bovines, such as cows, water buffaloes, and bison, and has been found in some wild ruminants.

Symptomen dieren

The disease begins with a high fever, inflammation of the eyes and nose, and reduced milk production. Lumps and swellings develop all over the body, especially on the head, neck, udders, and legs, making walking difficult.

Besmetting dieren

The LSD virus is transmitted by blood-sucking arthropods (such as biting flies, mosquitoes, and ticks).

Symptomen mens

Lumpy skin disease is not a zoonosis and is therefore not contagious to humans.
