Common wood pigeon

The wood pigeon, one of Europe’s commonest species of pigeon, is inhabits many European towns and countrysides. They can be distinguished from the similar appearing stock and rock doves by it’s slightly larger size and the white patches on their neck and wings. Wood pigeons naturally feed on seed and vegetable crops, nuts and berries; in towns their diet is likely to also include scavenged human foodstuffs. In the colder months, flocks from the far Northern European countries may migrate southwards, swelling winter numbers in countries such as the Netherlands.
