The annual report, detailing all of the DWHC’s activities in 2025, is now available. This report contains the monitoring and surveillance of diseases in wild animals in the Netherlands; knowledge development; and knowledge sharing in detail.
In 2025, 5,385 forms were filled in, of which 3,348 were for insight into mortality and 2,037 for submission for research. Through a triage process, a total of 1,231 animals were collected for research, of which 388 were for pathological examination at the DWHC. These included 230 mammals, 151 birds, 2 reptiles, and 5 amphibians (see Figure 1). Additionally, 843 bird carcasses were collected for avian influenza research at the WBVR.
Furthermore, seven targeted disease surveillance, knowledge development, and knowledge sharing projects were underway last year. For these specific projects, an additional 583 animals were examined.
We would like to thank everyone for reporting and sending in these animals!
