In February 2024, African swine fever (ASF) was detected in Albania for the first time. The contagious ASF virus was found in two dead wild boars. These wild boars where found in the municipality Kükes in the North-East of Albania, nearby the border with Kosovo and North Macedonia. ASF is present in these two countries.
